The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first orthodontic check-up no later than age 7. This allows us to detect potential problems early and plan for future treatment if necessary.
No, you do not! We welcome patients to schedule a complimentary consultation directly with our office.
Beyond a straighter smile, orthodontics improves oral health by making teeth easier to clean, reducing the risk of decay and gum disease. It can also correct bite issues, which can alleviate jaw pain, prevent abnormal wear on teeth, and improve chewing and speech.
Treatment time varies for each patient, but the average is between 18 to 24 months. Some cases may be shorter, while more complex cases can take longer.
The cost depends on the complexity of your case and the type of treatment you choose. During your consultation, we will provide a detailed breakdown of the cost. We offer flexible payment plans and work with most insurance providers to make treatment affordable.
Most patients with braces are seen every 6-10 weeks. For aligner patients, appointments may be less frequent, typically every 8-12 weeks, as we give you multiple sets of aligners at once.
We offer a variety of braces to suit your needs and lifestyle, including:
• Metal Braces: The most common and effective type, now smaller and more comfortable than ever.
• Ceramic Braces: Tooth-colored brackets that are less noticeable.
• Lingual Braces: Braces placed on the back (tongue-side) of your teeth, making them completely hidden.
You may experience some soreness or discomfort for a few days after your braces are placed and after adjustment appointments. This is normal and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and soft foods. The discomfort is temporary as your teeth begin to move.
You should avoid foods that are hard, sticky, or chewy, as they can damage your braces. This includes:
• Avoid: Popcorn, nuts, hard candy, gum, caramel, whole apples, corn on the cob.
• Enjoy: Soft foods, pasta, yogurt, soups, steamed vegetables, soft fruits.
It requires extra care! We will show you how to use special tools like:
• Orthodontic Toothbrush: A brush designed to clean around brackets.
• Floss Threaders or Water Flosser: Essential for cleaning between teeth and under wires.
• Interproximal Brushes: Small brushes that clean between brackets and wires.
Don't panic! Please call our office immediately. We will schedule you to be seen as soon as possible. In the meantime, you can use orthodontic wax to cover any sharp edges.
Clear aligners are a series of custom-made, removable trays that gradually shift your teeth into place. You wear each set for about 1-2 weeks before moving to the next set in the series.
For many common orthodontic issues, yes! Aligners are highly effective for treating crowding, spacing, and certain bite problems. However, for very complex cases, traditional braces may still be the most efficient option. We will determine the best treatment for you during your consultation.
• Nearly Invisible: Most people won't notice you're wearing them.
• Removable: You can take them out to eat, drink, brush, and floss.
• Comfortable: No metal brackets or wires to cause irritation.
• Fewer Dietary Restrictions: Since you remove them to eat, you can enjoy all your favorite foods.
For the treatment to be effective, you must wear your aligners for 20-22 hours per day. They should only be removed for eating, drinking anything besides water, and brushing your teeth.
You may experience a slight lisp for a day or two as your tongue adjusts to the trays. This is temporary and typically resolves quickly.
Rinse them every time you remove them. Brush them gently with a soft toothbrush and clear, antibacterial soap. Avoid hot water, as it can warp the plastic. We may also provide special cleaning crystals.
This is a crucial phase! To prevent your teeth from shifting back (relapsing), you will be fitted for a retainer.
Teeth have a natural tendency to move back to their original positions. Retainers hold them in their new, correct positions while your bones and gums adapt.
We typically recommend full-time wear for the first few months, followed by nighttime wear indefinitely. Consistent retainer use is the key to maintaining your beautiful new smile for life.
Yes, retainers are essential to maintain alignment and prevent teeth from shifting back.
Yes! Just wear a protective mouthguard to prevent injury or damage to braces.
Use a soft-bristled brush and interdental cleaners. Water flossers help clean between brackets effectively.
Rinse with water and brush gently with a soft toothbrush. Avoid hot water to prevent warping.
